Job Description:
PURPOSE OF POSITIONThis Director of Engineering role serves as
the leader for the engineering organization in the Industrial
Solutions Business Unit. This role is responsible for supporting
the full life cycle of all products in the Industrial Solutions
Business Unit helping meet the company's strategic plans and Lean
Portfolio Management priorities. This role will lead the
engineering team members and represents engineering at the Business
Unit staff level to ensure all products meet the needs of the
market, are current in technology and meet all financial
expectations. In addition, the Director of Engineering will ensure
processes are developed and deployed to relevant engineering
process in compliance with ISO and regulatory standards. This
position works closely with Product Managers, the Project
Management Office, Sales, and Operations.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Empower our teams to meet or exceed our product development
timelines and quality standards.
- Manage team to complete projects end-to-end ensuring product
platforms maintain relevant technology, manufacturing assurance of
supply, and meet margin expectations.
- Work with business Unit GM and Staff to ensure the product
portfolio evolves to meet the needs of Gems Setra strategic plan
and annual budget, including commercial collaboration and
relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders.
- Develop and manage Business Unit R&D budget to ensure that
we are making efficient use of our resources.
- Develop and maintain an active VAVE (value add value
engineering) funnel aligned to the needs of our customers and gross
margin targets of the business.
- Manage custom design activity via Customer Specific Product
process ensuring schedule and margin expectation is met for
requests.
- Work with Business Unit GM and leadership to establish and
deploy annual objectives with clear metrics to the team.
- Develop the engineering team to optimize performance and skills
necessary to complete all phases of work assignments. This includes
continuous review of talent, hiring, onboarding and development
plans cultivating a learning environment that encourages skill
development and professional growth.
- Maintain all aspects of documentation control in accordance to
ISO standards and regulatory compliance.
- Engage as necessary with 3rd party consultants and technical
resources to augment the Gems Setra team to complete product
development initiatives.
- Maintain technical expertise through individual research,
training, and personal development.
- Interface with other internal/external departments and
customers to provide support, understand program/project
requirements.
- Advocate and own the use of FBS (Fortive Business System) tools
whenever possible to ensure continuous improvement of all related
processes and procedures used in the department and across the
organization.QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION
REQUIRED
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical,
Software or Computer Engineering)
- Master's degree in engineering or related science is
preferred.
- MBA preferred.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 10+ years of experience in engineering field.
- 5+ years supervisory experience including experience managing a
globally deployed team.
- History of successful product and process development including
development of related manufacturing processes in a lean
environment.
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements including but not
limited to ISO:9001 quality requirements and all applicable product
regulations (Hazloc, environmental hazardous materials, CE, UL,
etc).OTHER FUNCTIONSMay be assigned various projects and
